Anglo-Indian Inter-School Athletic Meet – 4th & 5th August 2007
After a lapse of 4 years, the State level Anglo Indian Inter School Athletic Sports Meet was held on August 4th & 5th in Montfort Anglo- Indian School, Yercaud. More than 800 Athletes from 26 Anglo-Indian Schools in Tamil Nadu took part in the Athletic Meet.
In India, there are 35 Anglo-Indian Schools of which 34 are in Tamil Nadu and one in Andhra Pradesh. Ever since the Heads of the Anglo-Indian Schools decided to have this meet taken out from Chennai for the year 2007-2008, Bro.George K.J., the Principal took it as a challenge and agreed to host the same in Montfort School, Yercaud. The main problem faced by the school was accommodating 833 Athletes, 100 Staff members and nearly 40 Heads from various Anglo-Indian Schools. Among the 833 athletes, 464 of them were girls and the rest boys. Nearly 115 girls were put up in Sacred Hearts School, Yercaud and the rest were put up in various lodges and hotels. The entire boys numbering 369 of them were put up in Montfort itself. All the participants arrived on Friday, 03rd August itself. They were transported from the Salem Railway Junction and the Salem Bus-stand with the help of nearly 20 buses. The Salem City Police along with the Yercaud Police personnel were very helpful in transporting such a big crowd up the hill to Montfort.
All the Heads of the institutions were put up in the ‘House of Peace’ a nearby Resort run by the Religious Sisters. A number of committees were formed with a staff and the students of Montfort to organize effectively this mega event. Our Staff members and senior students went out of the way taking care of the requirements of all the Participants meticulously. All the Heads of Anglo-Indian School, participants and the staff members, including those who were staying outside the school were provided food and refreshments from Friday afternoon till Sunday Night in Montfort itself.
