The campers reached the camp site on 20th October around 11.30 A.M, after receiving some instructions by Bro. Principal. Bro Principal and Bro. Antony also accompanied the campers. The campers were divided into 25 groups and each of them stayed in separate tents under the able supervision of the camp masters. They had a tight but interesting schedule which started daily with the wake-up call at 6 A.M. and ended with the night prayer after the dinner at 9 P.M. The daily camp fire was the most interesting part of the camp. Each group competed to out do the performance of the other. The camp days were most memorable as they were away from their school and classrooms activities but close to Nature. The Nature was a big open book before them, from where they learned so many lessons which will never be forgotten by them. At the end of the camp, Bro. Principal appreciated all the campers, the camp masters and Bro. Antony P.J.
The excitement and merriment of the juniors knew no bounds when they were informed about their camp on 27.10.2009. The camp site - Mother Teresa’s Hill at Kombuthooki accommodated 410 students in 28 tents which were named after different animals. It was a glorious sight to see the campers carry their luggage, to clean up the surroundings, to make gadgets of different styles and set the tents for inspection.
Though the intermittent rains disrupted the planned schedule, the youngsters were full of enthusiasm and energy that they kept going with their schedule of jogging in the morning, cleaning and removing the weeds on the roadside leading to Maramangalam, uprooting the parthenium plants on the hill side etc. The inclement weather didn’t bother them at all. They were energized with refreshments and scrumptious meals. Everyday, in the evenings camp fire programme was organized before the dinner.
It was so interesting to see them all busy with their allotted work when there was sun shine and like little birds nestle inside the tents when the sky sent down good showers. The beautiful nature, the clean atmosphere and surroundings did teach them lessons that they have a great duty to preserve the nature and be grateful to God the creator.
They learnt to adjust to the weather conditions, inconveniences or deprivations.
What was so touching and amazing was the service rendered by the students of the Community School. The tremendous care showered by Bro. Principal and Bro. Antony definitely needs to be mentioned.
The final camp fire with the variety entertainment organized by the campers was very interesting. It made the evening joyful and rejuvenating. The wonderful and thought provoking performance by the Community School students made everyone spell bound.
Bro. Principal addressed the gathering and said that the value of education is not confined to the protected class rooms but it also implies learning from nature which makes one strong. Nature teaches that life is not so easy as a bed of roses but it also means struggle. The winner is the one who withstands difficulties and hard realities. He said that one may have ambition to amass wealth and live a comfortable life, yet he takes nothing with himself when he passes away from this world. He invited the campers to discover what is real service and come forward to lend a helping hand. Irrespective of wealth, position and dignity, to be ready to render service to others is the lesson one should learn and thus store treasures which cannot be destroyed by fire, insects or moth.
Silence enfolded as the Juniors bid “Adieu” to the camp site which they fondly loved. The lovely time enjoyed, the experiences gained and the lessons learnt from mother nature ever lingered on in their minds. We bow before the Almighty with gratitude for His ever abiding presence, providential care and protection.
