Teacher’s Day at Montfort “If we lose God, it doesn’t matter; If we lose a teacher there is no one to show us the right path to God” - Kabir.
This year Teacher’s Day was celebrated in Montfort in a very special way. The 12th Students took up the leadership in organizing this Special Assembly wherein the teachers were appreciated and honoured. They were escorted to the Assembly by the Students-leaders. The students presented a variety entertainment which included a prayer song, dance by the girl students, two speeches, a skit and an action song. The students brought out effectively the value and importance of good teachers. They also presented a beautiful ‘bookmark souvenir’ each to all the staff members. The school captain Mast.Albert in his speech appreciated the dedicated service rendered by Brothers and teachers for their development and growth.
After the school assembly, students-leaders took over the classes for the remaining part of the morning session. After the assembly all the teachers gathered in the School Library hall. They were honoured with gifts and mementos by the Principal and the other Brothers. Bro.Ignatius blessed them all for their wonderful work as leaders. Bro.George K.J., the Principal in his reflections, focused on the role of teacher in shaping the future of individual students and hence that of the country and the world at large. He explained why the teacher’s profession stands apart compared to all the other professions. He distributed a bookmark to all the teachers with the caption “I touch the future, I teach”. The bookmark also contained the following words: I want to be thoroughly used up when I die. For the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It’s sort of splendid torch which I have got to hold up for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations. “Those having torches will pass them on to others” - Plato.
Principal also briefly shared with the staff members the contents of two books viz ‘Teahcer you are precious’ and ‘Creative Teacher’s Handbook’, distributed to them as gifts. This was followed by a grand lunch for all the members of staff and students.
“A teacher affects eternity. He can never tell when his influence stops.” - Henry A dams.
