Since the period of time, the ancient and famous piggery at Montfort had to change site on to the Bear’s hill region, the transportation of waste food became a problem. Neither could the waste food be decomposed elsewhere as it could pose threat to the habitat.
For all reasons – the proposal of installing – Food Digester Plants in Mayfield (One) and Senior sections (Two) were sanctioned in 2006.
The Food Digester Plant is a universally accepted and proven technology for Bio Energy generation (Marsh gas) from Bio waste. It is a very simple, user friendly and it incurs no recurring expenses. With the help of “Food Digester Plant” fast decomposing waste materials like food waste, fruit and vegetable waste, fish market, slaughter house waste and waste water like rubber affluent, coconut water and starch water can be treated hygienically. During fermentation the organic matter is decomposed by the bacteria in the absence of air (anaerobic digestion) and produces fuel (Marsh gas) and organic manure. The gas generated through Food Digester Plant can be utilized as a fuel for cooking, lighting, running diesel engine and for generation of electricity.
