Did you and me visualize that Montfort could have a 400 meter Track and Field? Bro.George K.J, Principal during his tenure here began this mammoth undertaking to give Montfort a world class facility. It was no easy task to accomplishing this dream! The existing land area was only enough for a good 200 meter track cum one Football field. With several hurdles to surpass the extension possible was only towards the west, felling away a few silver oak trees and leveling a part of the coffee estate. A valley had to be raised and extended by another 60%. Huge walls were erected to a height of 40 to 50 feet to hold the mud to meet the needs.

It took not less than 4 years to accomplish this Herculean task. Bro.Antony P.J. the Procurator dedicatedly stood in the sun and rain to enthuse his workers. Loads of muds were transported day and night from one hill to another. Thus the famous First Field now accommodates for the creation of two new football fields and a hockey field. All along the top border of the field don’t miss the sight of saplings peeping to grow tall. All around on three sides’ galleries are constructed for the purpose of seating. This vast playing arena is also adequately lit up at night from a tower that has been erected with the sole purpose of illumination.

Our long cherished dream was fulfilled when the entire field measuring nearly 5 acres was ready. To everyone’s surprise it was grass turfed and looked majestic just in time for its inaugural on 29th July 2006, 90th Annual Sports Meet. This sprawling ground became the easy of all who attended the Meet – The Old Students of this school, parents, dignitaries and spectators. The grand and solemn inaugural with the Montfort family sending up balloons was a pleasant site on this historic day.

Montfort has always encouraged the pursuit of excellence in Sports and games. We hope to endeavor to make our presence felt at the National level and Olympics too!
